For this project we were tasked with creating a set of instructions on how to use a software of our choice. The tutorial was limited between 800-1000 words and it had to include very specific steps accompanied by visuals on to complete these steps.
I chose to create a tutorial on how to create basic 2D environments with Unity’s tilemap system. I went with this because I’ve been using unity for many years and I use tilemaps very often to build my own environments.
Since the word limit was low, I could only cover the basics. Even with just covering the basics, I found it difficult to compress the wording down to the word limit. The professor’s feedback helped out a lot with the word count. The professor pointed out that I wasn’t starting my steps with an action verb, but instead started with a fluff statement that was redundant and ate up the word count.
There were also some design issues that needed fixing. The snapshots I used were too small and hard to read, so I cropped them to only show important sections of the image and enlarged it. The notes and warnings also were too brightly colored, so I darkened them to increase the contrast.
Below you can find my revised instructions document.
